Mill Hill Village club captain Dan Potter has stepped down from the role after five years.
Potter took the reins of Mill Hill Village Cricket Club 1st XI in 2019, leading the side for five seasons.
In the coronavirus-hit season of 2020, Potter captained the 1st XI to the title but the league decided against promoting sides because it wasn’t deemed a full season of fixtures.
Potter’s successful tenure as captain also included promotion in the 2022 season. That year, the 1st XI were crowned champions of Division 5B of the Saracens Herts Cricket League, winning their last nine fixtures - after losing five of their opening nine - to cap a remarkable turnaround to the season. That meant the 1st XI jumped to Division 4B for the 2023 season.

In his final season in charge, in 2023, the 1s were unfortunately relegated. The side finished second from bottom in the division, with four wins out of 18, ending up on 264 points, four points from safety. Five fixtures were cancelled due to rain. The 1s will now play their cricket in Division 5A next season, with Potter still set to play an active part, just not as captain.
With the bat, he once again led the way this season as the club’s leading run-getter, scoring 326 runs in nine league games at an average of 40.75, with two fifties.
Potter, the club’s most consistent run scorer of the modern era, was chosen in August by a special selector panel made up of past and present club presidents and vice presidents to be part of a Mill Hill Village all-time XI.
Potter told millhillvillagecricketclub.co.uk: “I’ve been a member of Mill Hill Village Cricket Club almost my whole life. My first competitive cricket was in the under 10s and before that, I remember being a toddler watching as my brothers did Friday evening training.
“It has been an honour to be club captain for these last five years. I’ve been desperately keen to ensure this great club continues to thrive and that involves ensuring the 1st XI play at the best level they possibly can. There have been countless challenges, as would be expected, but I look back with enormous pride at what we achieved. There comes a time when it feels right to step aside and allow someone new to take over the reins. I’ll be there to support them, just as others supported me."
Potter will continue representing Mill Hill Village Cricket Club next season as the 1st XI bid to get promoted from Division 5A.
Potter’s successor will be named in due course.
