The inaugural Seema Memorial Cup, launched to celebrate the life of the late wife of Village member and sponsor Abhi Atri, took place on August 4. Abhi Atri is the founder/director of legal firm Ava Waves Juries Ltd, Mill Hill Village’s official front-of-shirt sponsor for 2024.

Three teams of Mill Hill Village Cricket Club members wearing specially made team kits complete with players’ names on the back competed for the Seema Memorial Cup in a mixture of T10 (semi-final) and T20 (the final) formats. The kits, as well as catering, were provided courtesy of Ava Waves Juries Ltd.

Seema’s XI, playing in bold blue and captained by Abhi Atri, won the competition, beating a Ken Shakoor-captained XI sporting a loud yellow kit.

The Best Batsman award went to Dinesh Johnson of Ken’s XI, for his destructive knocks of 45 in the semi-final and 97 in the final, albeit in a losing cause.

The Best Bowler award went to Prasham Garg for two miserly wicket-taking spells, first for a Usman Humayun-captained XI, who wore striking green, then in the final for Abhi’s XI.

Aryan Thaker won the Man of the Match award in the final for his rapid half-century that included three sixes and four fours that got Abhi’s blues off to a fast start in their successful chase of 180.

Awards were handed out on the day by Abhi and co-organiser Pooja.
