Naz Asif wins 1st XI player of the year vote

Naz Asif has been voted Mill Hill Village 1st XI's' player of the season after team members took part in a poll.

The medium-paced right-arm bowler won the top accolade following an influential campaign that saw him take 19 wickets at an average of 14.21, which also meant he earned the highest wicket-taker prize, alongside off-spinning allrounder Obaid Ur Rehman. Rehman took his wickets at an average of 14.26.

Asif was voted by his teammates as player of the season for his performance in a challenging campaign that saw the 1st XI get relegated from Division 4B of the Saracens Herts Cricket League.

Captain Dan Potter was again the 1st XI's highest run-scorer, scoring 326 runs in nine innings at an average of 40.75. Potter scored two fifties, top scoring with 73 in a win over Broxbourne CC 2nd XI. Potter has announced that he is stepping down as club captain.

Shifting focus to Mill Hill Village 2nd XI, Dinesh Johnson took the limelight as the highest run-scorer, as he did last year, accumulating 287 runs in 10 innings at an average of 41.00. Pace bowler Inthikhab Mazeez secured 15 wickets at an average of 18.33 to become highest wicket-taker for the 2nd XI, including 4-31 in a win against Northampton Exiles CC. Medium-pacer Hamdard Jan Temori was voted for as 2nd XI player of the season by his teammates for his 14 league wickets at an average of 18.71.

The 3rd XI saw captain and opener Philip Smith again secure the title of highest run-scorer with 256 runs in 11 innings and an average of 25.60. In the bowling department, left-arm bowler Andrew Godfrey (pictured above centre) bagged 12 wickets at an average of 17.75, earning him the highest wicket-taker gong for the second consecutive season. Godfrey's performance earned him the player of the season award for the 3rd XI.

In the 4th XI, Usman Humayun (pictured above left) clinched the highest run-scorer title with 169 runs in seven innings and a solid average of 28.17, including two half-centuries. In the bowling department, spinner Pryank Patel (pictured above right) captured 13 wickets at an average of 19.92. Usman Humayun won player of the season, acknowledging his contributions not just with the bat but the ball as well. He took seven wickets with his swing bowling, including 4-49 in a win against Old Minchendenians CC.
