Debutants make their mark on this season's MVP leaderboard

Three Mill Hill Village players who made their adult club debuts in 2024 have made Play-Cricket’s prestigious MVP rankings, published last week.

The 2nd XI’s Momin Sadozai, the 3rd XI’s Shahid Rahman, who has come through the juniors section, and our 2024 overseas signing Hayden Molenkamp - all newcomers to the Village this year - made the club’s top 20 MVPs list.

Sadozai, an all-rounder, finished the highest of this season’s newcomers, finishing 3rd in the club’s MVP list on 66 points.

Sadozai, pictured above left with his 2nd XI teammates, was a natural choice for our Team of the Season, having scored 268 runs at an average of 24.36 and taken 20 wickets at an 11.35 average, including one five-wicket haul. He was also voted the 2nd XI's Player of the Season, voted for by his teammates, and was the side's leading wicket taker. Millhillvillagecricketclub.co.uk wrote at the time: “A tremendous new addition to the club this year who starred with bat and ball, including 6-21 against Radlett with his skiddy medium-fast deliveries, the best figures of any Village bowler this season. Also took 11 catches and executed three run-outs.”

Sadozai, a doctor who hails from Afghanistan and is in the UK to pursue further studies, told Millhillvillagecricketclub.co.uk: "When I joined Mill Hill Cricket Club, I had no idea how much it would shape my experience in the UK. This was my first cricket season with the club, and it turned out to be more than I ever expected. The management of the club was fantastic and I made so many unforgettable memories. The warmth and support I received from all the players, especially 2nd XI captain Ken Shakoor and Hamdard Jan Temori, was overwhelming — they all treated me like family from day one.

"I was honored to receive the Player of the Season and Highest Wicket Taker awards for the 2nd XI. But what excited me even more was when our 1s team got promoted, overcoming tough competition. It was such a proud moment for everyone at the club."

"Now I’m looking forward to the 2025 season. I’m eager to improve my skills and bring more success to the club."

Shahid Rahman, who also had a successful season for the under-17s as a right-arm, medium-fast opening bowler, finished 13th on the MVP leaderboard on 37 points.

Tall, right-arm Aussie quick Molenkamp came 20th on 28 points. Molenkamp has now returned to East Ballarat Cricket Club in Victoria.

In first place in the MHVCC MVP leaderboard was the 1st XI's Sam Smith on 90 points, followed by teammate Marcus Cara, on 73 points. Both allrounders, the pair were crucial with both bat and ball in the 1s' successful promotion push that saw the side finish second under the captaincy of Devraj Ray. Next season the 1s play in Division 4B.
